There are so many different styles and designs of shoes available it can be a little overwhelming when you are out shopping for new sandals, boots and trainers, so it is important to have a good idea of your own size and foot shape, as this can help you to focus your search and choose flattering and comfortable shoes.
Wide Ankles
Slim down wide ankles by choosing pointy-toed shoes and avoid very flat shoes as these can shorten the leg and make ankles look bigger.
Big Calves
Flat shoes will compact calves and make them appear even bigger, so opt for shoes with a slight heel, which will lengthen the muscles and also add definition to the ankles. Boots that end mid calf or ankle can also make calves look bigger so avoid these as well and opt for boots that cut low on the ankle or end up at the knee.
Skinny Legs
If you have very skinny legs than heavy, clumpy shoes can be make them look even thinner, so opt for delicate, lightweight designs, and ankles straps and t-bars can help bulk out very skinny ankles. You can get away with very flat shoes if you have skinny legs so pumps and flip flops can be worn, but avoid ballet style pumps that tie up with ribbons up the calves, because these can draw attention to skinny legs.
Flat Feet
It is very important that you choose supportive shoes if you have flat feet, as this will help to prevent back, knee and ankle problems, so look for contoured foot bed designs that provide solid arch supports such as the Birkenstock and Schuh ranges, and try and avoid high heels as these place to much strain on your joints.
